Piers Morgan names his greatest-ever Arsenal XI that features two current players
Arsenal has boasted some iconic teams over the years. Many football enthusiasts will recall Arsene Wenger’s 2004 Invincibles as the finest Gunners squad in memory, alongside the remarkable double-winning team of 1997-98.
Renowned Arsenal supporter Piers Morgan, who has witnessed Arsenal’s journey for a long time, particularly cherishes players from earlier eras, evident in the players he selected for his ultimate Gunners XI.
In response to a social media video featuring former Highbury manager George Graham unveiling his all-time Arsenal XI, Morgan made his own picks, even including a couple of current Arsenal players.
Goalkeeper
David Seaman
David Seaman is indisputably among the premier goalkeepers in Premier League history. He commenced his career with Peterborough United in 1982 and later played for Birmingham City and QPR before joining Arsenal in 1990, where he enjoyed a remarkable 13-year tenure.
Throughout his time at Arsenal, Seaman clinched three league titles (in 1991, 1998, and 2002), along with four FA Cups, a League Cup, and a European Cup Winners’ Cup. Individually, he earned recognition by being selected for the Premier League’s team of the decade from 1992 to 2002 and was twice named in the PFA Team of the Year.
Defenders
Lee Dixon, Tony Adams, Sol Campbell, Ashley Cole
When Piers Morgan revealed his all-time Arsenal XI in March 2023, he notably omitted both Sol Campbell and Ashley Cole, instead favoring David O’Leary and Oleksandr Zinchenko.
However, Zinchenko’s standing at Arsenal has diminished since the previous season, prompting Morgan to reconsider. Cole, despite his controversial departure to Chelsea in 2006, now earns a place in the lineup, indicating a shift in Morgan’s preferences for the defensive lineup alongside Tony Adams.
Nevertheless, including Cole in the team likely doesn’t signify a change in Morgan’s sentiments toward the former England defender. Morgan has frequently referred to Cole as ‘Cashley’ on social media, underscoring his disapproval of Cole’s contentious departure from Arsenal.
