Arsenal is prepared to extend an invitation to Ruben Neves for a comeback to the Premier League, considering the midfielder’s desire to depart from Al-Hilal in the Saudi Pro League.

Last summer, Neves made an unexpected move to the high-spending league, transferring from Wolves to Al-Hilal for a substantial fee of £47 million.

The transfer raised eyebrows since Neves had previously openly expressed his aspiration to compete in the Champions League.

The Portuguese international acknowledged that the enticing contract offered in the Middle East played a significant role in influencing his decision.

“The main factor was my family and the chance to give them the life I have always dreamt of for them – that was the biggest reason for me to not have any doubts,” Neves said.

“I have three kids and a lovely wife, and I need to take care of them, that is the biggest trophy in my career.”

Nevertheless, reports from 90min indicate that the midfielder is dissatisfied in Saudi Arabia and eager to make a comeback to English football. Newcastle is reportedly interested in securing Neves, although the potential deal could face complications as the Premier League deliberates on changes to rules regarding transfers between affiliated clubs.

Newcastle’s ownership, the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia, holds a 75% controlling stake in Al-Hilal, adding a layer of complexity to any potential transfer.

As Arsenal looks into various midfield options for the upcoming January window, players like Douglas Luiz from Aston Villa, Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad, and Andre from Fluminense have caught their interest.

Neves, given his Premier League experience, could be a valuable choice for Mikel Arteta, especially with uncertainties surrounding Thomas Partey’s future with the Gunners.
