Premier League confirm Newcastle United-Arsenal referee

The Premier League has announced the selection of match officials for the next set of games, which will involve Arsenal playing against Newcastle United.

Arsenal supporters will be eager to discover the officials assigned to oversee their upcoming match against Newcastle United this weekend, especially given the contentious decisions in previous encounters between the two clubs.

Last season, Arsenal experienced significant frustration due to Newcastle’s time-wasting tactics at the Emirates Stadium. They were also convinced that they should have been awarded a penalty or even multiple penalties in the scoreless 0-0 draw.

During their visit to St. James’ Park, the Gunners secured a 2-0 victory. This win was partly attributed to VAR accurately determining that Jakub Kiwior hadn’t committed a handball offense that could have led to a penalty for Newcastle.

Stuart Attwell has been confirmed as the referee for the upcoming weekend’s match by the Premier League, supported by assistant referees Richard West and James Mainwaring.

Graham Scott will serve as the fourth official for the game, while Andy Madley will be responsible for Video Assistant Referee (VAR) duties, assisted by Stuart Burt as the assistant VAR.

Arsenal’s history in games officiated by Attwell reflects a slightly favorable record, with nine victories, six draws, and five defeats. It’s noteworthy that Attwell has only awarded Arsenal one penalty and has not given any red cards to their opponents in the last decade.

However, there was notable frustration among Gunners fans after Attwell’s refereeing performance on New Year’s Day in 2022. During that match against Manchester City, he denied Arsenal a clear penalty, sent off Gabriel Magalhaes, and awarded City a penalty.

In contrast, Newcastle’s record under Attwell’s officiation is quite similar, with 14 wins, four draws, and nine defeats.

When both teams have faced each other with Attwell as the referee, Arsenal emerged victorious in both instances, securing 1-0 and 2-0 wins at home in the 2017/18 and 2021/22 seasons, respectively.
