Real Madrid could help Arsenal clinch Ivan Toney deal within £45m transfer swing

Real Madrid‘s renewed interest in Arsenal’s Gabriel Jesus might assist Arsenal in their quest to sign Ivan Toney from Brentford in January, as per reports from Spain.

This could potentially lead to Jesus being transferred to accommodate Toney during the winter transfer window.

Ivan Toney appears to be a significant priority for Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta. Arsenal has faced a challenge in the past 18 months as their strikers have struggled to score goals, which impacted their Premier League title pursuit in the previous season.

Both inconsistency and injuries have troubled Gabriel Jesus and fellow striker Eddie Nketiah. Eddie Nketiah managed to score only four goals in the Premier League last season, highlighting the need for an upgrade in the attacking department.

While Arsenal has been frequently linked with Toney, they must exercise financial caution, considering their substantial expenditures in recent years.

Any further spending could potentially put Arsenal at risk of violating Financial Fair Play regulations.

This situation could necessitate Arsenal’s need to offload players before finalizing any significant new signings. Their ability to do so might be facilitated by Real Madrid if the Spanish giants decide to pursue their interest in Brazilian player Jesus.

As reported by the Spanish publication Sport, Real Madrid is closely monitoring the former Manchester City player, with a potential £45 million transfer in mind.

In such a scenario, Arsenal could opt to reinvest the proceeds from Jesus’s transfer into a deal for Ivan Toney.

Premier League teams will compete to secure Toney’s services during the January transfer window. The 27-year-old’s suspension from professional football ends on January 16, after he was discovered to have violated the Football Association’s gambling regulations 232 times eight months ago.

Arsenal is expected to vie with Chelsea and various other top-tier competitors for Toney’s contract. Parting ways with Jesus from their squad would enable Arteta’s team to bring in the former Newcastle player.

Arteta has previously stated that he has no intention of acquiring a new striker in January. When asked about this possibility in September, the Spanish manager replied: “We’re not thinking at all about that.

“We have really good players up front. It’s true that right now we have some injuries. We will continue with the players we have.”

Brentford manager Thomas Frank recently told Sky Sports that Brentford’s players are generally available for the right price. When asked if this also applied to Toney, he replied: “Yeah, I think so. I understand why there are a lot of rumours out there about him.

“For me he’s one of the best strikers, as a striker No.9, I don’t see many out there who is better in the world than him, of course you have [Harry] Kane, [Robert] Lewandowski, [Erling] Haaland and these types, but not many.”
