Real Madrid Grants Arsenal Transfer Approval for £17.5 Million Deal
Arsenal is paying attention to the situation as Real Madrid has given Ferland Mendy permission to leave the club during the upcoming summer transfer window.
Real Madrid needs to make room in their squad and generate funds for new signings, and the 27-year-old player is considered to be one of the players who is not needed. Mendy’s representatives have been informed by Real that he will not be receiving a new contract offer and they are free to search for a new team.
Mendy is searching for a three-year deal and Arsenal may have the opportunity to sign him.
Despite already having left-backs Oleksandr Zinchenko and Kieran Tierney, uncertainty about Tierney’s future due to a lack of playing time may make Arsenal interested in signing Ferland Mendy for around £17.5 million.
Tottenham may also be a potential suitor, but Mendy reportedly wants to join a team that is competing in the Champions League, which may not be possible with Spurs. Mendy made a name for himself at Le Harve before moving to Lyon and then Real Madrid in 2019.
This season, he has only started in 14 LaLiga games due to injury and a loss of form, resulting in him being behind Nacho Fernandez and Antonio Rudiger in the pecking order.
Mikel Arteta would welcome Mendy’s two-footed abilities as they prepare for the upcoming summer transfer window. Edu, Arsenal’s technical director, confirmed in March that they were already making preparations for the transfer window.
“It’s already started because you know what’s happening in the market, everybody is doing stuff,” Edu affirmed. “You have to plan with people as well just to be prepared so when you go again in the summer you are very prepared.
“I always make myself comfortable going into the transfer window when we’ve prepared how to face those challenges. In the Premier League there’s a lot of clubs and a lot of good managers so the competition is hard. So, as soon as you prepare well, you feel comfortable.
“We went into the winter period really, really well prepared and then we started to make some quick and important decisions. So far it’s helping the team and the team’s performing well so that’s good.”
Arteta has been reluctant to discuss in detail the Gunners’ transfer business, as shown by his response to Granit Xhaka being linked with a move for German side Bayer Leverkusen. “I am not going to be replying to certain stories but I am extremely happy with Granit,” the Spaniard affirmed. “I think he is having an incredible season, probably the best he is having at the club and we are really happy to have him.”
