Revealed: How Arsenal ‘blocked Bukayo Saka release clause request’ with contract compromise

According to reports, Arsenal declined to include a release clause in Bukayo Saka’s new contract. Instead, they reached a compromise by offering the winger a shorter contract extension.

Although the agreement ensures that Saka will stay at the club during his prime years, Arsenal was hesitant to give other clubs the opportunity to acquire him through a lucrative transfer fee.

Saka recently signed his lucrative new contract, solidifying his role in Mikel Arteta’s plans for the future. It has been revealed that Arsenal took additional measures to secure the player’s long-term stay.

According to The Mail, there were discussions about incorporating a release clause into the contract negotiations. However, Arsenal decided against it and instead compromised by shortening the length of the initial proposal. This way, they could maintain the player’s value while safeguarding against potential departures.

This arrangement gives Arsenal flexibility in the future, as they have the option to either sell Saka at a high value or offer him a new contract if he wishes to explore other opportunities. Saka has had an outstanding season, contributing with 13 goals and 11 assists for Arsenal, although the team narrowly missed out on the Premier League title due to a late setback.

With Saka’s future now settled, there is optimism that Arsenal can mount a strong challenge in the coming seasons. Additionally, Arsenal has extended the contract of goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale, who has performed exceptionally well in his second season with the club.

Currently, negotiations are still in progress between Arsenal and William Saliba. The club is actively working towards extending the contract of Martin Odegaard as well.

Speaking after signing his new deal, Saka told Arsenal’s website: “I’m just really happy. There’s been a lot of talking and it’s been a while, but I’m here now. I think this is the right club, the right place to make the next step. It’s a beautiful club – look where we are.

“For me, it’s about achieving my personal ambitions; how much I push myself and demand from myself each game, week in, week out.

“Then I have all the right people around me in terms of family, and when I come to the training ground, my teammates, the coaching staff.

“I think I have everything I need to become the best player I can be, and that’s why I’m happy to stay here and be here for the future, because I really believe that we can achieve big things.”

Mikel Arteta also added on his integral attacker: “It’s great for the club that Bukayo has extended his contract. Retaining our best young talents is key to our continued progress and Bukayo represents such an important part of our squad now and for the future.

“As well as being a fantastic talent, Bukayo is a special person, he’s loved by us all and he is a credit to himself and his family for the hard work and commitment they have all made to get to this level today.

“Together with our supporters, we’re so looking forward to enjoying Bukayo’s continued development with us in the years to come.”
