Saka explains how Man City old boys are giving Arsenal double title boost
Arsenal are seeking advice from Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko in order to handle the pressure of the title race, according to Bukayo Saka.
Arsenal currently lead Manchester City by six points in the Premier League with eight games remaining. However, City has a game in hand and will host Arsenal on April 26 at Etihad Stadium.
Arsenal has one of the youngest squads in the league, and many of its players have sought advice from Jesus and Zinchenko as they navigate uncharted territory. Both players, who moved to Arsenal from Manchester City in the summer, have won four League titles.
“I think in two ways [they are influencing us],” said Saka. “Of course they are quality [on the pitch], they are both special players.
“And then with their experience, they have been in many title races and fought for the biggest of trophies. So, they are just sharing their experiences with us and helping us mentally keep going.”
Sunday, Arsenal will travel to West Ham desperate for three points after being held to a 2-2 draw at Anfield last week. The team of Mikel Arteta dominated the first 30 minutes and raced to a two-goal lead.
Liverpool, however, fought back and had ample opportunities to win the game in the second half, but failed to capitalize.
“Of course, we were disappointed because we played so well in the first half and we wanted to continue playing like this,” Saka told Asian broadcaster K+.
“But Liverpool is a top team and obviously in the stadium with the atmosphere, it can help them a lot. In the end, we just have to take the point and say thank you to Aaron [Ramsdale] as well because he saved us at the end. Now, we have to change our focus to winning against West Ham.”
Arsenal’s lead at the top of the Premier League could be cut to three points by the time they play the Hammers, as City faces struggling Leicester on Saturday.
Eddie Nketiah’s return to training following a six-week absence due to an ankle injury should provide a boost for the Gunners. William Saliba, who has been dealing with a back injury since the middle of last month, is still questionable to play.
