Sevilla and the six other teams Arsenal could face in Europa League draw
Today, Arsenal will discover which team they will be facing in the round of 16 of the Europa League.
Arsenal topped their group which included PSV, Bodo/Glimt, and FC Zurich, allowing them to skip the recent round of 32.
With their absence from the FA Cup and Carabao Cup, the team has had more free midweeks.
This additional rest has been beneficial for Arsenal, as they are currently leading the Premier League title race by two points ahead of Manchester City, who have played an extra league game this season.
Despite this, Arsenal will be playing matches in the next three midweeks, starting with their league match against Everton on Wednesday, followed by two European knockout matches on the following Thursdays.
In the 2018/19 season, Arsenal made it to the Europa League final but suffered a disappointing 4-1 loss to Chelsea in Baku.
During Mikel Arteta’s first season as Arsenal boss, the team was knocked out by Olympiacos in the round of 16. They made it to the semi-finals in the following season but lost to eventual champions Villarreal.
In today’s draw, Arsenal could potentially face strong teams such as Juventus from Serie A, Sevilla who have a history of performing well in the Europa League, or AS Roma managed by Jose Mourinho.
There are seven possible opponents that Arsenal could be paired with. However, Manchester United cannot be one of Arsenal’s opponents as they are from the same association.
Potential opponents confirmed: Union Berlin, Juventus, Sporting Lisbon, Shakhtar Donetsk, Bayer Leverkusen, Sevilla, Roma
