‘So much quality’: De Bruyne says Arsenal’s challenge is different
Kevin De Bruyne thinks that the Premier League is currently facing its most challenging competition in several years.
With the season coming to a close, there are many exciting and closely contested battles happening throughout the league standings.
Manchester City, where De Bruyne plays, are currently five points behind Arsenal in the standings and still have a match against them at their home stadium.
Additionally, the rankings of both the top four teams and the bottom three teams are uncertain and could change in the coming weeks.
Next season’s Champions League could see Manchester United, Tottenham, Newcastle, and Liverpool all vying for qualification, and even Brighton, Brentford, and Fulham have a chance to finish in the top seven. The competition is tight throughout the league, with the bottom eight teams separated by just five points.
Despite the pandemic, Premier League teams have continued to spend more money than their European counterparts, and there are no signs of English football’s post-pandemic spending slowing down anytime soon.
According to De Bruyne, the intense competition in the Premier League this season makes it one of the toughest in years. This highlights the considerable challenge that Arsenal and other teams face in trying to succeed in the league.
“I think the league has changed a bit, the lower teams they are able to spend more money and buy more quality players,” he said.
“I feel like all 20 teams have so much quality and I think the level of difficulty of beating all these teams is getting tougher and tougher. We are second in the league, we are in three competitions, so I think if you are comparing to a lot of different years I don’t feel too different.”
