Takehiro Tomiyasu signs new Arsenal contract at the Emirates.
According to reports, Arsenal defender Takehiro Tomiyasu has signed a new contract at the Emirates.
The Japan international’s injury problems have resurfaced, but he remains a fan favourite at Arsenal and a member of Mikel Arteta’s squad.
After excelling as a centre-back at Bologna, the 25-year-old has now excelled on the right and left sides of Arsenal’s backline, though he has not played for the club since their New Year’s Eve loss to Fulham due to an injury sustained in the Asian Cup.
However, Tomiyasu’s latest injury is unlikely to keep him out for long, and sporting director Edu has prioritised a new-and-improved contract for the defender in light of his outstanding performances earlier this season.
According to The Sun, Tomiyasu has signed on the dotted line, and official confirmation of his new contract is expected once he has fully recovered from his most recent injury.
The 25-year-old, whose current contract expires in the summer of 2025, is reportedly in line for a wage increase to £100,000 per week – double his current £50,000 weekly salary – due to his strong first half of the season.
