‘Very good player’: Arsenal tipped to sign ‘quick’ player Chelsea sold in 2021
Kevin Campbell, a former Arsenal player, has expressed support for Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal in their pursuit of signing Marc Guehi, a former Chelsea defender who currently plays for Crystal Palace.
Campbell believes that Arteta should improve the center-back position and has recommended replacing Rob Holding with Guehi. According to Campbell, Guehi, who is 22 years old and currently performing well at Crystal Palace, is a talented and fast player.
He shared his thoughts on Guehi during an interview with The Highbury Squad.
Gabriel Magalhaes and William Saliba are currently the primary center-back pairing at the Emirates Stadium. Saliba, who has only one year remaining on his contract, is anticipated to sign a new deal.
However, towards the end of the 2022/23 Premier League season, when Saliba was sidelined due to injury, it became evident to the fans that the quality and depth of backup options were lacking.
Due to the deficiency in quality and depth among Arsenal’s center-back options, Kevin Campbell believes that adding Marc Guehi to the Arsenal squad for next season’s Champions League would be beneficial. Guehi, who is an England international, is seen as a potential solution to strengthen Arsenal’s defensive lineup and enhance their chances in the prestigious competition.
“That’s a spot that has to be upgraded anyway,” said Campbell. “We have been linked with Guehi at Palace, haven’t we?! And stuff like that.
“Very, very good player. Young. Quick. England international.”
Guehi would be a good signing for Arsenal
If Arsenal were to acquire Marc Guehi, he would immediately pose a challenge to every center-back at the club. He would be a superior option to have on the bench compared to Jakub Kiiwor and Rob Holding. In fact, he could potentially outperform Ben White in the heart of Arsenal’s defense, and he would argue that he is even better than Gabriel given the opportunity.
With the return of Champions League football and the dominance of Manchester City, Arsenal would greatly benefit from adding this level of quality and depth to their squad. Guehi’s arrival would significantly enhance their chances of achieving success and winning trophies.
