Video: Arsenal flop Nicolas Pepe finally scores first goal for new club, and it’s stunning
Arsenal released their former record-breaking signing, Nicolas Pepe, at the beginning of the season, as the winger mutually ended his contract.
Despite Pepe’s evident talent, his time at Arsenal was not as successful as anticipated. Although the 28-year-old had some memorable moments while in North London, the club incurred a substantial financial loss on a player they acquired for £72 million four years ago.
Given the lack of interest in Pepe from other teams, he transitioned to Trabzonspor in Turkey after departing from Arsenal. However, his adjustment was hindered by injury, causing some initial struggles.
Presently, Pepe has regained fitness and is determined to demonstrate his ability to perform at a top-tier level.
His recent performance in his inaugural start against Fenerbahce highlighted his natural talent, indicating his potential to excel.
Nicolas Pepe scores in first start since leaving Arsenal
In his debut starting appearance for his new team against Fenerbahce, who finished second last season, Pepe, having previously made two substitute appearances due to his recovery from injury, made a significant impact.
Trabzonspor secured a thrilling 3-2 victory, and Pepe played a pivotal role by scoring an outstanding goal. He contributed to an attacking maneuver from the left-hand side, swiftly entering the box and delivering a powerful strike with his weaker foot, sending the ball into the top corner with such force that it seemed capable of breaking the net.
This achievement marked a positive moment for Pepe, as he endeavors to reinvigorate his career following a challenging period in recent seasons.

Where did it go wrong for Pepe at Arsenal?
By the conclusion of his second season at Arsenal, Pepe had emerged as the team’s top scorer and concluded the season impressively.
However, a combination of a sluggish start to the 2021-22 season and the rise of Bukayo Saka as a viable choice for the right-wing position resulted in Pepe losing his spot. Saka’s exceptional performances made him an indispensable player for the team.
Both Pepe and Mikel Arteta have acknowledged their desire for things to work out, but it became apparent that Pepe didn’t quite fit into Arsenal’s possession-oriented style of play. His preference for a more counter-attacking system was at odds with the team’s approach. Despite his potent left foot, he struggled as he didn’t receive consistent playing time to regain his top form after being dropped.
Pepe is now looking to excel in Turkey, aiming to rebuild his reputation in European football. His arrival at Arsenal was marked by high demand following an incredible season with Lille, and he hopes to rekindle that success in his new setting.
