Arsenal fans teased West Ham United during the Carabao Cup match by chanting about Declan Rice.

The Gunners made a significant statement by acquiring Rice from the Hammers in the summer transfer window, setting a new club record by spending £105 million to secure the services of the English player from the London Stadium.

Following his transfer, the robust midfielder has performed exceptionally well, showcasing several impressive performances that contributed to Mikel Arteta’s team rising to second place in the current Premier League standings.

During Wednesday’s game, the 24-year-old midfielder revisited his former home ground and was warmly welcomed by the West Ham supporters with plenty of applause.

Arsenal fans made sure to joke with the home side, at one point chanting: “Declan Rice, he left cause you’re (expletive)!”

Rice was among the substitutes for the game, while Jorginho, Fabio Vieira, and Kai Havertz were chosen to play in the midfield for the team from north London.

Vieira scored his inaugural goal of the season in the previous weekend’s match, slotting in a penalty as his team triumphed 5-0 against Sheffield United.

That match also witnessed Takehiro Tomiyasu scoring, marking the first time he had accomplished this feat since his transfer from Bologna just over two years ago.

In the meantime, Eddie Nketiah achieved his first-ever Premier League hat-trick, scoring two goals from close range before unleashing a powerful long-distance strike that beat Wes Foderingham.

Nketiah assumed the leading striker role due to Gabriel Jesus’ absence, as the Brazilian player sustained a hamstring injury the previous week in the match against Sevilla.
