When will Gabriel Jesus play again for Arsenal? Mikel Arteta reveals on his plans for Brazilian striker
Mikel Arteta is emphasizing that Arsenal will not hurry Gabriel Jesus’ return to the game, given that he has been out of action for three months due to an injury.
While playing for Brazil during the 2022 World Cup, the Brazilian player suffered an unfortunate knee injury and had to undergo surgery.
As a result, he hasn’t played for Arsenal since November 12. However, he recently participated in full training before the Premier League leaders played a 2-2 draw with Sporting in the Europa League round of 16.
Gabriel Jesus did not make it to Arsenal’s matchday squad for the game in Portugal, and when asked about his return, Arteta told football.london about the timeline for the 25-year-old striker’s comeback.
“We will try not to rush him back. We will try to make a fair assessment between what he needs and when is comfortable and as well giving the team a boost that it’s going to need in the next few weeks for sure. Everything is going well, he needs time as well to get himself that confidence and that physical state that is necessary to compete with a free mind and once he’s free to do that, we will throw him in.”
After Arsenal’s thrilling 3-2 win over Bournemouth, in which they maintained their five-point lead at the top of the Premier League table, Gabriel Jesus participated in the post-match warm-down. He is keen to return to the pitch as soon as possible, having scored five goals for the Gunners in his first season with the club.
Recently, Arsenal has been using Gabriel Martinelli as their No.9 due to injuries to both Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah. They will be playing again in the domestic league on Sunday, with a short trip to face Fulham in London.
