Where Arsenal’s 6-0 win at West Ham ranks among Premier League’s biggest away wins

Arsenal have made history with their resounding 6-0 victory over West Ham United at the London Stadium, joining the record books. Goals from Bukayo Saka (2), William Saliba, Gabriel Saliba, Leandro Trossard, and a spectacular strike from Declan Rice have propelled the Gunners to level on goal difference with Manchester City, just two points behind league leaders Liverpool.

Under Mikel Arteta’s leadership, Arsenal easily dispatched their London rivals, adding a fourth consecutive win to their tally and firmly positioning themselves in the title race.

The match was a forgettable one for former Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Alphonse Areola, as he became the ninth goalkeeper in Premier League history to concede six or more goals against Arsenal.

This victory marks only the second time the Gunners have scored six unanswered goals in a Premier League match since 1992, with the first being against Blackpool in 2010.

By triumphing in East London, Arsenal have matched their impressive victories over Everton in 2009 and Middlesbrough in 1999, both of which ended 6-1 at Goodison Park and the Riverside Stadium, respectively.

However, their triumph falls short of their most significant Premier League wins against Blackburn Rovers (7-1), Everton (7-0), and Middlesbrough (7-0).

This latest victory also sees Arsenal join the elite group of teams to have secured a 6-0 win away from home in the Premier League.

Previously, Liverpool achieved this feat twice against Newcastle United in 2013 and Aston Villa in 2016, while Chelsea accomplished it against Wigan Athletic in 2010 and Southampton in 2022.

Manchester City completes the list with their 6-0 win over Watford at Vicarage Road in 2017.

Rice’s sensational goal, which could contend for goal of the season, concluded the scoring but also prevented Arsenal from joining Nottingham Forest, Tottenham Hotspur, or Liverpool as clubs to have scored seven goals in a Premier League away match.

Here’s the list of the most significant Premier League away victories:

  • Wigan 0-6 Chelsea, August 2010
  • Newcastle United 0-6 Liverpool, April 2013
  • Aston Villa 0-6 Liverpool, February 2016
  • Watford 0-6 Manchester City, September 2017
  • Southampton 0-6 Chelsea, April 2022
  • West Ham United 0-6 Arsenal, February 2024
  • Sheffield Wednesday 1-7 Nottingham Forest, April 1995
  • Hull 1-7 Tottenham, May 2017
  • Crystal Palace 0-7 Liverpool, December 2020
  • Nottingham Forest 1-8 Manchester United, February 1999
  • Southampton 0-9 Leicester, October 2019
