Why Arsenal’s Amadou Onana transfer pursuit is out of Everton manager Sean Dyche’s hands
Following a period of poor performance by Arsenal, there is some positive news surrounding potential new additions to the Emirates Stadium.
While many supporters are calling for a new striker, there are reports indicating that Arsenal is targeting Amadou Onana, Everton’s defensive midfielder.
The Belgian player has become a crucial part of Sean Dyche’s team since joining from Lille in the summer of 2022, making 21 appearances this season.
Discussions between Arsenal, Onana, and Everton are reportedly in the ‘intensive talks’ stage, though a potential obstacle may arise concerning the transfer fee.
Everton is believed to be seeking £50 million for their key player, posing a significant financial commitment in the middle of the season.
Luckily, Everton’s existing financial circumstances might offer some flexibility, potentially eliminating a potential hurdle. As commonly understood, any competent manager would be reluctant to part ways with a key player midway through the season.
However, in a press conference last week, Dyche acknowledged that decisions regarding players leaving Goodison Park might be beyond his control.
When questioned about potential departures, he informed reporters: “That would be down to the powers that be. They will make those decisions, inevitably.
“They will ask my advice, I’m sure. It’s fair to say we’ve got a more well-rounded squad and it’s showing signs of progress.
“You don’t really want to be taking that to pieces, certainly not midway the season, but the club might view it differently. We will have to wait and see.”
This development should be a source of encouragement for Arsenal. Often, one of the major obstacles in securing a transfer revolves around convincing the opposing manager to let go of their player.
Dyche’s implication, however, suggests that Onana’s departure could be a matter settled in the boardroom. In such a situation, financial considerations take precedence, and if Arsenal can present a reasonable offer, they stand a good chance of securing their target.
