‘Will be very different’ – Mikel Arteta’s Emile Smith Rowe vow emerge as Newcastle United pursue the attacker

Emile Smith Rowe‘s limited playing opportunities with Arsenal have fueled rumors of a possible departure from the Emirates Stadium in January.

Newcastle United has now surfaced as a potential destination for the 23-year-old, as the club shapes its strategies for the upcoming winter transfer window.

Due to injury issues, Smith Rowe was limited to only 12 league appearances last season, and in the current campaign under Mikel Arteta, he has featured in just six matches across all competitions.

Despite a 33-game season in 2021/22, the former England Under-21 international has experienced a decrease in his playing time under the Spanish manager, sparking discussions about a potential departure from North London.

During the summer, there were rumors connecting Smith Rowe to a transfer, but Arsenal decided to retain him. As the transfer window was closing, Arteta, in response to questions about the midfielder’s future, made a promise that September would mark a change for the 23-year-old.

Arteta said: “I had a conversation with him and it’s important to understand where he is. The first three or four weeks were always going to be tricky for all the clubs.

“You see all the rumours and players who are not happy in every country because it’s one game per week for a month and everybody has a new season with huge aspirations, there are not minutes for everybody. September will be very different.”

Smith Rowe was absent from Arsenal’s league matches in August and played only ten minutes during an undefeated September.

Arsenal is scheduled to take on Newcastle United at St James’ Park on Saturday, November 4, with a 5:30 pm kick-off time.
