Winger Contemplating Rejecting Arsenal Amidst Shock £42m Contract Offer
According to talkSPORT, Crystal Palace has offered Wilfried Zaha, who has been linked with Arsenal and Chelsea, a contract that would set a new record for the club. Zaha, who is 30 years old, holds the record for the most Premier League games played for Crystal Palace and ranks third in their all-time appearances list.
In his 458 matches for the club, he has scored 90 goals and provided 76 assists, according to Transfermarkt. Although Zaha briefly moved from Palace to Manchester United in 2013, he only made four first-team appearances and returned to Selhurst Park on loan after one season.
He eventually joined Crystal Palace permanently for a relatively low fee of around £3 million.
With Wilfried Zaha’s contract set to expire at the end of the season, there is significant interest in his services. Premier League clubs Arsenal and Chelsea are among those rumored to be interested in signing the Ivory Coast international.
Additionally, European giants Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich, and Juventus are reportedly keen on acquiring him.
Zaha holds a special place in the hearts of Crystal Palace fans as a club legend, and while many supporters are eager for him to sign a new contract, there is a sense of resignation among some that they may ultimately lose the talented winger.
There is a glimmer of hope for Crystal Palace fans as talkSPORT has reported that the club’s management has extended a new four-year contract offer to Wilfried Zaha.
The proposed deal is valued at £200,000 per week, which amounts to nearly £42 million. It comes as no surprise that Zaha is seriously contemplating accepting this offer. If he agrees to the terms, he would become the highest-paid player in the history of the club.
Given Zaha’s age of 30, it would be unwise for him to reject such a lucrative offer. Typically, players in that age bracket are offered contracts spanning two or three years.
However, free agents often have the leverage to negotiate substantial wages. While Arsenal has been consistently linked with Zaha for a while, it seems that the opportunity to join the club may have passed.
Nonetheless, the persistent rumors suggest that there might be some truth to the speculation surrounding Zaha’s potential move.
In the past month, Fabrizio Romano stated that Crystal Palace has made a significant contract offer to Zaha and denied any ongoing talks between the player’s representatives and Arsenal.
However, Zaha’s performance this season has been underwhelming, with seven goals and two assists in 27 Premier League games. This output is considered poor for a player of his caliber, particularly when factoring in the reported big-money contract offer he has received.
Throughout his career, Zaha has not had the opportunity to compete in the Champions League. If he were to receive an offer from a club participating in that prestigious tournament, it would be understandable for him to decline Palace’s lucrative offer.
On the other hand, it would also be reasonable for him to reject a Champions League club’s offer in favor of a long-term contract worth £200,000 per week. Ultimately, the decision would depend on Zaha’s priorities and ambitions.
