Young Player of the Season Award: Arsenal dominates selections; Newcastle, Brighton usurp Man City
The Premier League has made an official declaration of the contenders for the ‘Young Player of the Season Award,’ and three individuals from Arsenal have been included in the selection. Brighton and Hove Albion and Newcastle United have each secured two spots, while the current leaders of the league, Manchester City, have secured the last position.
Undoubtedly, the player from Manchester City is the clear choice. Erling Haaland, a 22-year-old, has had an exceptional first season in England that can be described as almost supernatural.
Up to this point, he has impressively scored 36 goals in just 33 appearances, playing a pivotal role in propelling the Cityzens towards their third consecutive title.
This goal tally has already surpassed the previous record in the Premier League era, and with three games remaining, Manchester City still has the opportunity to further enhance it.
Newcastle United has chosen two players for the nominations: 23-year-old center-back Sven Botman and 23-year-old attacker Alexander Isak. Both players have played crucial roles under the management of Eddie Howe this season, contributing to Newcastle’s current position in third place in the Premier League standings.
Likewise, Brighton has had an exceptional season. The Seagulls are harboring aspirations of qualifying for European competitions, which would be a historic achievement for the club. The contributions of Alexis Mac Allister (24) and Moises Caicedo (21) have played a significant role in Brighton’s success this season.
There have been strong speculations and connections linking both players with transfers away from Brighton. Therefore, it will be intriguing to observe whether Roberto de Zerbi, the Brighton manager, can successfully resist the interest from other clubs for his two promising midfielders.
Arsenal trio nominated for award
Arsenal stands out as the team with the highest number of nominees in the Young Player of the Season Award. Interestingly, despite having the youngest squad in the Premier League, they have given the soon-to-be champions, Manchester City, a tough competition throughout the season.
The three Arsenal players nominated are Bukayo Saka (21), Gabriel Martinelli (21), and Martin Odegaard (24).
Bukayo Saka has had an exceptional campaign, showcasing his talent and potential. In his 36 league appearances, the winger has scored 13 goals and provided 11 assists. This translates to an impressive average of 0.66 goal contributions per match.
Martinelli has also made a significant impact, having scored 15 goals and contributed with five assists, playing a crucial role in Arsenal’s success this season.
However, it can be argued that Martin Odegaard has been the standout performer among the nominees. In 35 Premier League appearances, the attacking midfielder has scored 15 goals and provided eight assists. Odegaard has even taken on the responsibility of captaining Arsenal at times, demonstrating his leadership qualities.
With these talented young players nominated, Arsenal appears to have a promising and high-quality squad for the years ahead. It is indeed an exciting time to be a fan of Arsenal, even if they miss out on the Premier League title.
