The FA deliberates on the disciplinary action for Kyle Walker following his intense altercation with Arsenal’s set-piece coach
The FA has decided not to act to the confrontation between Kyle Walker and Arsenal’s set-piece coach, Nicolas Jover, following Arsenal’s 1-0 win against Manchester City.
Walker was caught on camera confronting Jover after he extended a handshake that Walker declined.
Erling Haaland, a teammate of Walker, stepped in to defuse the situation, and so did Emirates security.
However, despite these interventions, the heated exchange continued as Walker was escorted down the tunnel.
Before joining Arsenal in 2021 as part of Mikel Arteta’s coaching staff, Nicolas Jover had previously worked in the same role at Manchester City, where he coached Kyle Walker during Walker’s two-year tenure at the club.
The decision by the governing body not to pursue any action in this matter is believed to be influenced by the swift resolution of the altercation, which was quickly diffused and brought under control.
On Sunday, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola added to the tension surrounding the incident when he was asked about it, stating, “I know what happened, but I won’t say anything.”
According to Sky Sports footage, the incident unfolded as follows: After the final whistle, Kyle Walker initially dismissed Nicolas Jover with multiple dismissive hand gestures and continued walking towards the tunnel.
However, as words were exchanged, Walker turned back and confronted Jover directly, with both of them standing practically face-to-face, intensifying their argument. Erling Haaland also turned around to support Walker, leading to a rapid escalation of the situation, with coaches from both teams and several other Manchester City players getting involved.
Walker, visibly agitated, continued to argue until he was eventually convinced to head down the tunnel, at one point pointing his finger at an Arsenal official.
Another camera angle showed Jover wagging his finger at no one in particular while being calmed down by Bukayo Saka, who was not part of the matchday squad due to injury.
